You just never know...

As I got out of Bible Study today, I noticed that Brian had called several times. It is usually very important for him to call several times in a row. Well...he wanted to inform me that my readership is a little larger than I thought. I knew I had about 3-5 faithful readers...(thanks Adam and Steph!) but who would have guessed that Mr. Jeff Wignall (yes...the AUTHOR of the book I was supposed to be reading while taking care of our child, cleaning the house, and cooking dinner, etc...!!) was reading it, too! He just so happened to Google search himself on the same day that I posted! How funny is that! I was scolded by the author of the book. Mr. Wignall...just in case you come back...I am going to read your book. I want to learn about photography and our new camera...that just wasn't the day! I would gladly take a lesson...if you are ever in Nashville!

Well, I don't mean to be haunting your blog (really), but the Internet is a strange and curious thing, isn't it? I post a lot of photos to Flickr, for example, and I get emails from places that I've never heard of (good thing we have Goggle mapping).

So yes, your audience is bigger than you think! The funny thing is that search engines tend to work very at finding obscure things that might be of interest to a small audience. If you post the words "pickle jars," for instance, suddenly your blog will show up for people searching for that topic. (And it will be my fault if pickle jar people start reading your blog now.) Hey, you might like my other book, "The Joy of Digital Photography" by the way. But don't buy it--your library probably owns it!

And I've never been to Nashville, but my girlfriend (a children's librarian) and I used to go to the National Storytelling Festival in Jonesborough every year--a great annual event (which is happening next week, come to think of it). That part of eastern Tennessee is so beautiful, like Vermont, but with warmer weather :) By the way, there are lots of free tutorials on my website. One of these days I'm going to post the online lessons I used when I taught at Betterphoto.com so people can have them for free.

OK, I'll leave you in peace now. Hey, if the baby cries, read her the book--you might both get a nap :)

CB - you are famous!!! First you are on Sports Center, then you get several posts by a published photographer! Wow. I'm impressed. And yes, I read your blog too. Love it and love you.
